Library FAQ’s (Frequently asked questions)
1.Yes, the two databases are similar. PubMed ist the Internet access to Medline,i t is the National Library of Medicine (Bethesda, MD) bibliographic database –the largest biomedical world library –and includes some additional informations on Medline. 2. Many of Internet information's are accessible via payment. Some NMS|FCM information resources could be searched ony by authorized members (students, teachers, researchers, staff).
To search NMS|FCM journal and e-book collections elsewhere in your computer, you must install the VPN (Virtual Private Network), click here to see how.
3. The Library provides in the Level -1 several study rooms , if you are a common graduate year student you only can book these spaces, if there aren't any registrations from other Faculty members. Please check the study room's availability in the Reception Desk (entrance).
4. We welcome students to work in the Library, every year. The Faculty has an active partnership with our students, through the AEFCML. Two students work in the Library in the late opening hours (6 to 8:00 p.m.). For more information see Library News.
5.We welcome all visitors to the Library, people who study, teach and work in the Faculty – the internal users –must produce a library card in order to obtain the Library Services, like borrowing books, to use the Personal Computers or electronic resources in the building.
Before entering the building, you must report to the Reception Desk (entrance) and complete some registration formalities.
Visitors who want to use the Entrance, the Library reading room (Level -2) and the Computers Room (Level -1) – external users - must have obtained prior permission from the Reception Desk and complete a short registration form. Be aware that unaccompanied children under the age of 16 will not be granted access.
External users cann't borrow books but might use some Services, under conditions. See services available in User Services.
6. Yes, staff at the User Information Point on floor -2 will answer any brief questions that you may have. See the Library homepage, to accessing research information that help you to locate journal articles , books, websites and other information here in the building or at home (VPN installation requires), at Collections or Information Skills areas.
7. We regret that the Library cannot allow the request of books if the issue isn't available, as internal user you can made a reservation of the textbook in order to borrow it when it is available. See Contacts and Loan Service for help.
8. Yes, the Library accept mail, phone and e-mail requests, if you are an internal user . See Contacts and Using the Library (Users) for information.
9. If you are an internal user, you can request journal articles using the Service of Library Finding Information & Inter-Library Loan . See information in Contacts.
10 Only if you are an internal user, you can use the Service Inter-Library Loan to request an item that is not available in the NMS|FCM Library's print collection of books but available in another library. The Library can request the book for you, according the rules of the borrowing libraries. See information in Contacts.
11. A journal impact factor measures the frequency with which the average article from that journal has been cited in a particular year.
The greater the average, the higher the impact factor of the journal. It's one of the quantitative indicators such as bibliometrics criteria used in scientific research production evaluation of individuals, departments, disciplines, organisations and countries.
The impact factor of a journal is available through the Web of Knowledge, in the Journal Citation Reports.
