There is an open call for applications for a Research Grant (BI), for the realization of R&D activities by a graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree (“Licenciado”) enrolled in a Master's or in a course non-leading to an academic degree.

Under the reference DAI/2021/19, in the scope of the project EXPL/BIA-CEL/1484/2021, at the institution CEDOC - Chronic Diseases Research Centre (Centro de Estudos de Doenças Crónicas) from Faculdade de Ciências Médicas|NOVA Medical School (FCM|NMS), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL), supported by income from the above mentioned project financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P., under the following conditions:

Field of study: Experimental Biology

Admission requirements (eligibility criteria):        

  • Bachelor’s degree (“Licenciado”) in the area of Biomedical Sciences or related field;
  • Enrolment in a Master’s or in a course non-leading to an academic degree in the area of Biomedical Sciences or related field. (The Proof of enrolment in a Master’s Degree or in a course non-leading to an academic degree could be obtained until contracting. The assessment made here will only take into account if the candidates meet the conditions for enroling in a Master’s Degree or in a course non-leading to an academic degree in accordance with the work plan of the grant.)

Work plan:

The goal of this project is to study intercellular communication between epithelial cells, neurons and glia during wound repair, using Drosophila as model system and high-resolution live microscopy. The selected researcher will contribute to the following tasks:

  1. Characterization of reinnervation upon skin injury, namely cell morphology and dynamics over time.
  2. Role of sensory neurons and glia in skin repair, using functional genetic studies.

Legislation and applicable regulations:

The fellowship is legally framed by the Research Fellowship Holder Statute (Law 40/2004, of August 18) and the FCT Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships in force.

Place of work:

The work will be carried out at the Tissue Repair and Inflammation and the Neuronal Growth and Plasticity Groups of CEDOC – Chronic Diseases Research Centre at Faculdade de Ciências Médicas|NOVA Medical School (FCM|NMS), Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL), under the scientific supervision of Doctor Lara Carvalho and Prof. Rita Teodoro.

Fellowship duration and predicted start date:

The fellowship will last for 6 months and is expected to start on February 15, 2022.

The fellowship contract is eventually renewed for an equal period until the end of the project.

Monthly Scholarship Amount:

The monthly amount of the fellowship corresponds to € 835.98 (eight hundred and thirty-five euros and ninety-eight cents), paid monthly by bank transfer, according to the table of stipend values of FCT, I.P., in Portugal.
 
Selection Methods:
The motivation letter and CV of the candidates will be evaluated according to the weighting of the factors indicated below.

NOTE: In case of equal score, interviews may be conducted where references will be considered. The final evaluation will consist of 90% of previous curricular evaluation and 10% of the interview evaluation.

Form of publicizing/notifying the results:

The results of the evaluation will be sent by email to the candidates who submitted the application within the deadline. The candidates will also be informed by email that if they wish to comment at the prior hearing, they should present their comments by email within 10 working days.

The call is open from the 10th January until 22nd January (until 12:00 AM), 2022, and is published on https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/ (Portuguese and English versions on this website).
