Bruno Costa-Silva

Researcher
Manager

Dr Costa-Silva obtained his PhD in Oncology at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and AC Camargo in São Paulo, Brazil, working on pre-metastatic niche induction by tumor-derived EVs. Then he moved to Weill Cornell Medical College in New York for his post-doc at Dr. Lyden´s laboratory, where he spearheaded studies on the role of EVs in cancer pathogenesis, specifically in the metastasis of pancreatic cancer. In 2016, he relocated to Lisbon to lead the Champalimaud Foundation's Systems Oncology group. He is currently leading projects that investigate the role of extracellular vesicles in the establishment of the tumor microenvironment, with the goal of identifying plasma extracellular vesicle populations that are present in early stages of cancer and are associated with response to chemo- and immunotherapies

Fun Fact: He likes to work on "grown-up puzzles" like assembling IKEA furniture and doing minor home repairs while singing along to the greatest of all time: Francis Albert Sinatra.
