NOVA Medical School holds workshops with remote ultrasound robot

NOVA Medical School held two demonstration workshops with a robot that allows remote ultrasound, at Hospital Francisco Xavier and Hospital São José, which are part of the Lisbon Academic Clinical Center.

This initiative is part of NOVA Medical School's Research and Innovation strategy, where robotics is emerging as a differentiating area in healthcare.  The action was coordinated by Professors Pedro Póvoa, David Nora and Luís Bento and included health professionals and interns from the Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital de São Francisco Xavier and the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital de São José.

Developed by the Pedro Nunes Institute (IPN), the remote ultrasound robot is currently undergoing technological development in order to explore its added value in terms of providing healthcare and training healthcare professionals.

Testing the robot is one of the objectives of the TrainR4U project, an international consortium led by the Pedro Nunes Institute and co-financed by EIT Health.
