NOVA Clinical Research Unit - NOVA CRU

NOVA-CRU is the clinical research management unit of Universidade NOVA. It is a joint venture between NOVA Medical School and NOVA Information Management School.
NOVA-CRU intends to foster the execution of independent clinical studies, in accordance with good clinical practice, promoting the creation of an infrastructure to support researchers in conducting clinical studies, thus contributing to the generation of relevant evidence and impact on clinical practice.
With expertise in areas such as the development of clinical research protocols, submission of clinical trials to the authorities, monitoring and management, data analysis, construction of electronic case report forms, NOVA-CRU counts with a set of capabilities and experience, which puts at the service of the academic, medical and pharmaceutical community.
NOVA CRU has 4 main core business activities:

  1. Management of Clinical Research (Start-up phase; Implementation and Monitoring; Clinical studies management);
  2.  Coordination in Health Care Units;
  3. Data Management & Statistics;
  4. Training.


NOVA-CRU currently provides support to 45 clinical studies, of which 22 are clinical trials.
NOVA CRU collaborates with more than 10 international Academic Institutions.
At a national level, NOVA CRU's activity thus far involves the management of more than 30 research teams dispersed by more than 20 hospitals not only in the Mainland, but also in the Azores and Madeira.
Regarding to Study Coordination, NOVA CRU is the responsible of Clinical Research Management in Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Ocidental, since 2016. The Coordinator Team support more than 300 clinical studies witch include more than 2000 patients. NOVA CRU is also starting new collaborations with other Hospitals.
NOVA CRU is be-half of PtCRIN (Portuguese Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) promoting international network through ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network).
