António Saragoça Collection

The Medical Library Professor António Saragoça Collection, donated to the NOVA MEDICAL SCHOOL for study and research purposes, contains copies of his scientific works and books from his personal library in the areas of gastroenterology and medicine in general.

 

Celestino da Costa Collection

The Medical Library Collection of Professors Augusto Celestino da Costa and Jaime Celestino da Costa, donated to the NOVA Medical School in 2013 for study and research purposes, contains around 1.100 copies of academic works and books from their personal libraries in the areas of history of medicine, histology, embryology and cardiothoracic surgery.

 

Jacinto Simões Collection

The Medical Library Collection Professor Jacinto Simões, donated to the NOVA Medical School in 2015 for study and research purposes, contains copies of his academic works and books from his personal library in the areas of nephrology and general medicine, among others. Some of the more current books in this Collection have been integrated into the Library's general collection and are available in the reading room, in accordance with the provisions contained in the NMS Collection Development Policy.

The Medical Library Collection Professor António Rendas, donated to NOVA Medical School for study and research purposes, contains copies of his scientific works and books from his personal library with emphasis in the areas of physiology, physiopathology, respiratory system, general medicine, medical education and history of medicine.

FAQ'S

Can I consult the copies of this collection?

Yes, it will be necessary to send an email to biblioteca@nms.unl.pt identifying the day and time intended and the works you want to consult.

How can I request materials from this collection?

To request the consultation of the documents already available of this Collection, you should consult the Library Catalogue and obtain the Quota of the documents you want to access. After that, you should go to the Service Counter and make the requisition.

Is there a limit to the number of copies that can be requested?

You may consult up to 5 copies per requisition. If you need to consult other copies, you will have to go to the Reference Desk, hand in the copies you had access to and request new ones. 

Where can I consult these documents?

Only in the Reading Room. Note that some of the copies should be handled with care. If any pages come loose or if you notice any damage to your copy ask the librarian for help.

Can I previously reserve copies for consultation?

Yes, if you are already a regular user of the Library. To do so you should send your request to biblioteca@nms.unl.pt

May I request copies or scanning of the materials?

No. Given the need to preserve the materials in question, it’s not permitted to copy these documents.
