Several staff members from NOVA Medical School and NOVA Rectorate had the opportunity to participate in a BLS – Mass Training class, which took place on September 29th, at the Military Academy Gymnasium.
This training, aimed at 1st year students on the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine, has been held annually since 2011 and is part of the Basic Life Support Curriculum Unit.
The Basic Life Support curricular unit, which is part of a broader teaching area of the Integrated Master's Degree in Medicine (MIM), "Emergency/Critical Patient", cuts across several disciplines and aims to train students to deal with patients in life-threatening situations. Training in Emergency/Critical Patient Medicine begins with training in Basic Life Support in the first year of the Master’s Degree in Medicine, in accordance with the recommendations of the European Resuscitation Council, and concludes in the final year with complementary training with other courses already integrated into the the master’s curriculum. This BLS Curriculum Unit is led by Professor Pedro Póvoa and is now in its 11th edition. To carry out this training, NOVA Medical School has had a partnership since 2011 with Alento, a non-profit organisation dedicated to training in cardio-respiratory resuscitation.
As has been the case for several years, this BLS - Mass Training was also offered to employees of the Rectory and NOVA Medical School, with the aim of having more people trained in this area, creating greater integration and interaction between the various members of the academic community at NOVA Medical School and NOVA.
