On June 24th, NOVA Medical School promoted the 2nd edition of Nutrition Shark Tank, an initiative developed in collaboration with Nova SBE's Health Economics & Management Knowledge Center, which took place at the emblematic Thalia Theater in Lisbon.
Inspired by the television format "Shark Tank", the event challenged five finalist teams from the Degree in Nutrition Sciences to present innovative projects to a panel of 20 representatives from companies and public entities - the "sharks" - in an exercise that brought the academic world closer to the business fabric.
The big winner of this edition was the Easyphagia project, which proposes a technological solution to a public health problem that is still not very visible: dysphagia. The team presented the IDDSI check, a portable device capable of accurately assessing the texture of food, ensuring greater food safety and promoting the autonomy of people with dysphagia, a condition that mainly affects the elderly and people with neurological diseases. This solution aims to improve food safety, reduce avoidable hospitalizations and support caregivers, health professionals and cooks in their daily lives.
This event reflects NOVA Medical School's commitment to training geared towards contemporary challenges. The academy challenges its own limits and prepares students with 21st century skills: innovation, entrepreneurship and a strong sense of social responsibility.
The projects presented were disruptive, differentiating and with the potential to create real value in society.
NOVA Medical School thanks all the partners, teachers, mentors and students involved - and renews its commitment to continue creating bridges between science, young talent and innovation in health.
