NOVA Medical School mourns the death of Professor José Rueff

It is with deep regret that NOVA Medical School fulfills the painful duty of communicating the death of Professor José Alexandre de Gusmão Rueff Tavares, Full Professor at our School.

Professor José Rueff served as Pro-Rector of  Nova University between 1993 and 1999 and Vice-Rector between 2003 and 2007 and was a member of the Scientific Council of NOVA Medical School until 2020.

He was Coordinator of the Human Molecular Genetics Research Center since 2000 and Coordinator of the Center for Toxicogenomics and Human Health since 2015, being an unmissable name internationally in the field of genetics and cancer, with more than 200 scientific articles published.

NOVA Medical School pays a public tribute to his memory and expresses its deepest condolences to all his family and friends, at this time of enormous sadness and consternation.

Professor José Rueff leaves an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing him. With his sense of ethics and mission, he was always an uncompromising defender of NMS|FCM/UNL, having had a remarkable influence on students at our school for around four decades. His generosity, wisdom and commitment to the well-being of others were truly inspiring and his legacy will endure for generations to come.

The wake will take place tomorrow, March 15th, at 2pm at the Jerónimos Church and the mass will take place on March 16th (Saturday) at the Carvalhais Parish Church, in São Pedro do Sul, at 4pm, followed by the funeral.
