Otília Vieira, a researcher at NOVA Medical School, was honored by the Municipality of Gouveia with the Municipal Medal of Merit at a formal ceremony held on August 11, as part of the Municipality Day celebrations.
The Medal of Merit is awarded to individuals and institutions in the municipality who stand out for their work on behalf of the community. In the case of Otília Vieira, it recognizes her dedication to scientific research and her contribution to the development of medicine.
Otília Vieira is Principal Investigator of the
Lysosomes and Diseases group at NOVA Medical School, which seeks to understand the role of lysosomes in cell biology and in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis—the leading cause of cardiovascular disease—and to promote the translation of these results into clinical applications.
