Contract for PhD Holder @ Molecular Mechanisms of Disease

Pursuant to the provisions of article 11, paragraph 2, of Decree-Law no. 57/2016, of August 29, it becomes public that by Dean’s decree of February 10, 2022, the opening of an international selection competition procedure was authorized for the completion of a PhD holder job vacancy for the exercise of scientific research activities financed by the Programa Operacional Regional de Lisboa in its FEDER component and by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia in its national component, under an uncertain fixed-term employment contract under the Labor Code in the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas|NOVA Medical School, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.

1 — The PhD work in the scope of Research Project PTDC/MED -PAT/30385/2017, is intended to perform the following functions:

a) Carrying out scientific research activities in accordance with the work plan of the project in question, in the areas indicated below and related;
b) Analysis and interpretation of results, preparation of progress reports, writing of
scientific articles and scientific projects;
c) Supervision of PhD, Master's and Bachelor's students;
d) Participation in the life of the institute, namely in science dissemination activities.

2 — General requirements of the application:

a) Portuguese nationals, foreigners or stateless persons, holding a PhD degree in Biology or related areas;
b) Holders of a scientific and professional curriculum appropriate to the project to be developed.

If the PhD has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12, and any formalities established there must be fulfilled until the formalization of job contract.

3 — Specific requirements of the application:

a) Minimum research experience of 3 years after the PhD;
b) Proven experience with scientific publications in the area of ​​molecular mechanisms and cells involved in aging and neurodegeneration, and an H index higher than 7 according to the ResearchID metric;
c) Experience in the techniques of: animal handling; mouse neurodegeneration models; intraperitoneal injections, genotyping and dissection; immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry; confocal fluorescence microscopy; flow cytometry; gene expression (qPCR, RNA -Seq and microarray); evaluation of protein levels by western-blot; analysis and treatment software data (Image J, Adobe Photoshop CS, GraphPad Prism, Quantity One, Biorad CFX, Step One Plus qPCR, system, FlowJo);
d) Animal experimentation course according to FELASA references;
e) Proven experience in primary cultures and pigmented epithelial cell lines of the retina;
f) Proven experience in the maintenance, manipulation and differentiation of iPSc in models 3D organoids;
g) Good knowledge of the English language.
