The Healthy brain research area aggregates several biomedical research groups and researchers, with laboratories at NMS and several clinical researchers, who perform their research at NMS affiliated or partner hospitals.
This research area aims to get insights into the link between neurodevelopment, aging, and molecular/cellular determinants to disease. The goal is to provide knowledge and innovative solutions promoting brain health or therapeutics addressing brain disorders, which are among the most debilitating chronic diseases of the aging population. Altogether, these Biomedical and Clinical researchers have a multidisciplinary expertise making use of diverse methodological approaches (neurogenetics, cell biology, pharmacology, neurosciences, behavior, preclinical studies), and study models such as in vitro systems, in vivo models (mouse, rat, Drosophila, human iPSCs) and humans (clinical trials). This holistic approach generates scientific evidence about the biological basis of neurodevelopment and normal aging brain with the onset of brain disorders.
