OBJECTIVES
The MSc in Physiotherapy is a professionally-oriented programme, which has been organised in partnership with the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) - Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública- (ENSP), and Faculdade de Ciências Médicas (FCM) and the Setúbal Polytechnic Institute - School of Health Care (ESS/IPS).
This MSc is the only programme in this area in Portugal with accreditation by the International Federation of Orthopedic Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) and part of the IFOMPT Aproved Learning Institutions.
It aims to provide the Physiotherapy graduates the opportunity to reinforcing their specific knowledge and understanding of the clinical or community physiotherapy intervention and to develop the adequate competences for an autonomous practice of their profession. It is also expected that the graduate students may be able to contribute to the development of the profession, research and implementation of an evidence -based practice.
From the competences and attributes developed in the undergraduate degree, this Master of Science promotes an approach focused on the clients/populations’ needs, and the commitment with the values of the profession, as well as with the professional development and lifelong learning. The course explores fundamental areas of knowledge, to promote the understanding of health conditions and consequent disability levels, assuming exercise as a central element in the promotion of functional capacity and social participation of individuals and populations.
Being a professionalizing Masters degree, its structure allows for the development of competencies in two specific areas of intervention: community physiotherapy, namely health promotion and disability prevention; and physiotherapy in musculoskeletal conditions.
